5's and 3's Dominoes Tournament Rules
- The game is Fives and Threes (Double 6 Pack).
Dead hole to be pegged in all legs. Players
cannot go out on down. Every pack of dominoes
must be checked before playing. If a fault is
found with the pack after play has commenced the
game will continue to the end of the hand, after
which the pack can be changed. The result of any
previous legs won with the faulty pack will stand.
- Each player to commence each hand with 6 dominoes.
If a player does not pick up the correct number
of dominoes then that player will go back 8 holes.
If the offending player has not scored 8 holes
then the 8 holes are to be added to the opponent's
score. A reshuffle will then take place without
any further dominoes being played and the
offending player's opponent will down next. Both
players to be out of dominoes or all players need
to be knocking before any hand complete.
- To decide the DOWN one player from each side will
draw one Domino each. The highest total Domino
drawn decides the DOWN. This procedure to be
carried out in all legs. The player on the left
of the player who shuffles takes their dominoes
first, the player on their left takes their
dominoes next etc.
- At the start of every hand it is the
responsibility of all players to know whose down
it is on every occasion. There is no penalty,
therefore, for playing out of turn before
play commences. However, once
play has commenced if a player plays out
of turn or shows a domino that is visible to his
partner and can be named by the opposition then
that pair will go back 8 holes. If the offending
player has not scored 8 holes then the 8 holes
are to be added to the opponents score. Play will
cease and a reshuffle takes place with the same
player who downed previously downing again.
- In the event of a player playing a domino that
will NOT go either end the player will go back 8
holes. If the offending player has not scored 8
holes then the 8 holes are to be added to the
opponent's score. The offending domino must be
removed from play and placed face up in the pack.
The offender shall, if he is able, continue to
play. To play a domino a player must position his
domino at either of the two available ends and
release. Accidentally dropping a domino does not
constitute a domino being played. If a wrong
domino has been played, not noticed and play has
continued, the game will continue with no penalty.
If a player plays a domino that will not go at
the end played, but will go at the other end, he
will be allowed to reverse. If a player cannot go
either end the player must physically "knock"
the table. If a player "knocks" and
then realises he can go before the next player
has played then he will go back 8 holes and any
score that he would have scored will be zero. All
dominoes NOT played shall be shown at the end of
each hand. If, on the turnover or during the
course of play, any player is found to be holding
a domino which could previously have been played
when the player knocked, then that leg will be
awarded to his opponent.
- If stalemate occurs after hand completed, no
score for lowest domino.
- There will be no score made for last domino
played, unless it is a scoring domino.
- If by accident a domino is exposed in the course
of the pick-up, a reshuffle will take place and
the same player to DOWN again.
We would like to thank the British National Domino and
Crib Championships for their assistance and for providing
these rules.
