Continuing variation II:

7.E5** 8.D10

Question 6: If White now plays 9.D11, how does Black win? Answer
Question 7: If instead White now plays 9.G10, How does Black win? Answer
Question 8: If White plays 9.F10, what is Black's best response? Answer
Question 9: What is the correct winning move here for White? Answer

End of Variation II. Returning again to the game:

5.E5*

White threatens to link directly past Black, on one side or the other of the E4 peg. This simpler approach is much better for White than the 5.C4 of variation II.

Now Black plays 6.C5*

(Of course, 6.D6* is also playable.) Black still has a double threat, of either linking to G3, or playing E9*, which has its own double threat. How can White deal with both threats?

7.I5* 8.E9*

Question 10: Black resigns after White’s next move. What move does White make here to finish Black off? Answer
