Variation I.

Let us consider what might happen if Black plays 4.G4

White now has to reply to Black’s threat to cut across the top.

Question 2: Suppose White plays 5.D4

How does Black win here? Answer

Variation I continues with 5.C4

This results in a much better ‘shape’ than 5.D4. The triangular arrangement of pegs at C4, C8, and G6 is very strong.

Question 3: Suppose Black tries an attack with 6.B8

What is White’s best move here? Answer
