Diplomacy
The 1999 World E-mail Masters began on 1 October, and is still underway. This event, with 553 players in 79 teams, is the largest Diplomacy event the world has seen. The prize fund is over $18,000.
Each team has seven players, one playing each of the seven countries on different boards. The team competition is decided by results from the first round, but the individual tournament then continues with a semi-final contested by the top 49 players, and then a 7-player final.
