Please tell us a bit about yourself - some basic details - birthdate, work, family, whatever you like - to introduce yourself.

I was born in Tokushima, my mother's home town, on December 22, 1964. I teach English at Azabu High School in Tokyo. I have a wife and a daughter.

What other games/mind sports do you find interesting?

I find shogi and go fascinating, and I often play them, with my colleagues or on line. In fact, I have learnt a great deal about surviving in tough competition by reading the works of professional shogi and go players. Without their insights, I would not have become World Champion of Othello.

What other interests do you have?

Well, family is one thing. I have a daughter, and would like to have more kids. But Othello has always been at the center of my interests. When I have free time, I either play Othello, play through past games, solve endgame puzzles, or study openings. There is not a day when I do not think about Othello at all.

What are your continuing ambitions?

Well, my ambition is to break the record set by Hideshi Tamenori, a record nobody seriously believes can be broken: winning the world championships five times!
