Rong Guang YE (Holland) vs. Chi Kam LO (Hong Kong) - 1999 World Cup,
Round Five, in
algebraic or
WXF
notation.
YE wins with quiet positional accuracy against a former Hong Kong
champion. The veteran LO was probably tired, playing his second game
that day. Ban LO says that 10... R9=4 and 11... H6+4 lose time, and
recommends 10... H2+3 11. R3+2 G4+5 12. R3=4 R1=2. In a deceptively
quiet position, Black blunders with 22... P3+1??.
Weng Yew HOR (West Malaysia) vs. Rong Guang YE (Holland) - 1999 World
Cup, Round Six, in
algebraic or
WXF
notation.
YE’s only loss in Shanghai, and a fine game by HOR, who had a very good year.
YE seems about to neutralize Red’s advantage in the centre, when 25. C5+1!!
threatens a mating attack after 25... R2=6? 26. R3=6. One of the best moves of
the tournament.
Shing Kin HO (Vancouver) vs. Rong Guang YE (Holland) - 1999 World Cup,
Round Seven. "Poker Face"
, analysis by Ban LO, with help from Bill Brydon.
Cheng Jiang HE (Macau) vs. Rong Guang YE (Holland) - 1999 World Cup,
Round Nine, in
algebraic or
WXF
notation.
This meaty last round struggle is probably YE’s most impressive game in
Shanghai. Red keeps a small advantage, but hard labour can’t produce winning
chances. The draw secures YE’s prize, and prevents HE from finishing fifth.
