The Hong Kong Chinese Chess Association is holding a comprehensive Chinese chess exhibition on March 10. It will be held at the Southern Playground, as part of the opening ceremonies of Wan Chai Cultural Festival. The exhibition will involve play over the Internet, and all are welcome to observe or participate.
The highlight of the event will be a game between GM Tian Li XU of Shanghai and Hong Kong's Kang Wah LI, who finished seventh in the 1997 World Cup. This will displayed on a large demo board, and broadcast immediately over the 'Net.
There will also be a videoconferencing link between Hong Kong and Toronto. This will allow the audience to see both players. I will be in Hong Kong to play in this demo. The exhibition will take place from 2 pm to 5 pm Hong Kong time. So it will begin at 1 am EST, or 6 am GMT.
The exhibition will also include simultaneous exhibitions by strong players, a leitai challenge, a presentation on how to play the game, and invitations to play against computers, and solve endgame puzzles.
Most likely we will use the FXQ Club server at http://www.chessserver.com/cchess/. We'll post a confirmation when we've made a final decision.
All are welcome to come online and watch, or to attend the festival if you are in Hong Kong. The Mind Sport Olympiad is standing by to receive a story. I will file one as quickly as possible, with pictures and games. I also expect to attend a round of the Hong Kong team championship.
Games by both of the featured players can be found in Peter Sung's database. To whet your appetite, here’s one by each.
