CHINA TAKES LEAD IN NEW STARS CLASH
Liu Shizhen 5-dan, 22, of China has taken the lead in the 3rd best-of-three match between the Kings of the New Stars of China and Korea. In Game 1 on 28 June 2000 he defeated Yi Sang-hun 3-dan, 25, in Seoul.
Liu was the winner of the Xinren Wang title in February whilst Yi took the BC Card Cup: King of the New Stars in May.
The Chinese appear to regard Yi's younger brother, Se-tol 3-dan, as a tougher opponent. Sang-hun is noted as a strong attacking player keen on keeping the initiative, but apt to be unsteady. Even if this is true, Sang-hun's record this year so far, apart from winning the BC Card Cup, is an impressive 16-5.
