ING MEMORIAL TOURNAMENT Amsterdam, Netherlands 9-11 March 2001
In the Ing Memorial Cup held in Amsterdam on March 9-11 at the European Go Cultural Centre the winner was Alexandr Dinerstein of Russia, ahead on tiebreak of Guo Juan, Laurent Heiser and Cristian Pop, all four of these players having five wins out of six. Last year's winner and reigning European Champion Lee Hyuk slipped up, losing both to Guo and to the Luxembourg player Heiser. Dinerstein's loss was to Pop of Romania
In a very strong field of 24 there were 12 different countries represented. The two players entered at 4 dan did well, Jan Hora of Czechia winning three games and Andrei Kulkov of Russia doing even better with four wins and seventh place. The rest of the entry was made up of four 7 dans, seven 6 dans, and eleven 5 dans.
