Common Factors To All Tournaments -Formats: Biba organises two types of tournament, Knockout and Swiss (see below). Plus each Friday evening a 'Warm-up' knockout and each Saturday evening a 'Doubles' knockout. Venue: All tournaments except Bright 'n' Breezy (Hilton Brighton Metropole) and Scottish Open (Hilton East Kilbride), will take place at the Hilton National Hotel, Coventry (M6 J2, M69). Accommodation: The special Biba rate for dinner, bed & breakfast per person is L53 for one night, L98 for two nights (Brighton Metropole L100 for two nights). To book your accommodation telephone Hilton Reservations on 0990 201 201 quoting 'backgammon'. Do not deal with the hotel directly as they are not authorised to offer the special Biba rate package.
Hilton Terms & Conditions: Backgammon tournament
weekends cannot be booked through any other Hilton
special offer or promotional rate. Anyone not
obeying these terms and conditions will be barred
from entering the tournament excepting non-residents
who shall pay a surcharge of L20.
Friday: Warm-up Knockout 22:00. First prize a free
weekend's accommodation at the hotel and free entry
into the L1000 prize fund. (Free entry for Biba rate
residents)
Saturday: Registration 10:30 to 12:30. Auction
12:45. Main Tournament starts 13:00. Dinner 18:30 to
21:30. Doubles tournament starts 22:00.
Sunday: Play resumes 10:30. During Knockouts only -
Last Chance tournament starts 10:30. Suicide
tournament starts 13:00. Prize giving 16:30 approx.
Knockouts: All knockout tournaments offer four
elements; Main (11 points), Progressive Consolation
(7 points), Last Chance (5 points) and Suicide (3
points).
Knockout tournaments are: Bright 'n' Breezy (Jan).
Scottish Open (Mar). British Open (Apr*). Hilton
Trophy (Jun). Sandy Osborne Trophy Oct). *Might move
to the Mind Sports Olympiad in August.
Swiss: All Swiss tournaments offer 6 x 11 point
matches, winner against a winner throughout until we
have just two on maximum points for a playoff.
Swiss tournaments are: Jarvis Trophy (Feb). County
Cups Trophy May). SAC Trophy (Aug). Town Harbour
Trophy (Nov).
Combination: Occasionally a combination of both
Knockout and Swiss is played; see relevant entry
forms for details.
Combination tournaments are: Roy Hollands Trophy
(Sep). UK Finals (Dec).
