Older News From 2 August 2000:
DBgF WINS!
SAS Radisson has thrown in the towel, and it is finally determined that the Danish Backgammon Federation was not at fault when the prize money was stolen at the Nordic Open in 1998. We were awarded almost complete compensation which, together with interest from December 1998, is enough to cover the remainder along with most of the related expenses we have had in the interim. This means that all the players who won prize money at the 1998 Nordic Open will be paid in full; we will be informing them by mail this week.
Unfortunately it appears that as one battle has been won, another has begun. The law firm of Dragsted Schlüter Aros, which represented us in the case, has submitted an outrageous invoice for about 100,000 crowns more than we had reason to expect. We have disputed the invoice, and if we don't obtain the desired reduction, we will be obliged to bring the case before the Attorney Review Board.

1st Torneo Internacional de Backgammon
6th EBN May Tournament
Sala de Fiestas, Casino San Roque
7-14 May 2000
The First International Backgammon Tournament held in the Sala de Fiestas of the beautiful Casino Nuevo de San Roque, was truly a great success. This extraordinary Casino is located in the Campo de Gibraltar, near the port city of Algecieras. The tournament was organized by Bambi & Martin de Bruin, publishers of the international backgammon newsletter, "European Backgammon News".
World class Backgammon players from sixteen countries, (Austria, Holland, Sweden, Italy, Norway, Belgium, Germany, Spain, Denmark, England, Israel, Canada, France, Portugal, Lebanon and the USA), converged on the small pueblo of San Roque, to participate.
The winner of the tournament was English real-estate promoter Colin Martin who is a long time resident of the Costa de Sol. Colin and his lovely wife Linda, both ardent backgammon players, have been living at La Cañada, near Estepona for many years. Although Colin does not play in many tournaments, this is the second EBN win for him in Spain. He also won the 2nd EBN Tournament in 1996.
