FIDE has invited Kasparov to participate in this year's World Cup, though he is very unlikely to attend. Linares 2001 is scheduled for February 23 to March 8. Among the expected players are Kramnik, Morozevich, Adams, Anand, Shirov, and Leko.

New Philippine Organization Formed
The Philippine Chess Players Association was formed to upgrade the status and livelihood of professional players. "The meeting was a breakthrough in bringing together, us, chess players to jell into one potent force," said Grandmaster Bong Villamayor. "Our group aims not only to uplift the state of the active player's life but also help define his role in the chess-playing community, even after he retires."
Philippine Olympiad Fracas Continues
The Chairman of the Philippine Sports Commission will personally appeal to the Philippine Chess Federation to include GM Antonio and GM Villamayor on the country's Olympiad team. Several top players are snubbing an Olympiad qualifying event.
