Kenyan Chess Rift
FIDE is attempting to mend a rift between the 2 main factions in the Kenya Chess Association. A reconciliation committee has been appointed.

USCF 2000 Cramer Awards
The USCF has announced the 2000 Cramer Award Winners. Chess Journalist of the Year: Larry Evans; Best State Magazine: Chess Horizons; Best Newspaper Column: Robert Byrne.

Lubomir Kavalek
In his weekly Washington Post column, Kavalek discusses the recent tournament in Dortmund, won by Kramnik and Anand. "Without the machine's games, Anand would have emerged best among the humans, although he blundered a better game away and lost to Kramnik." He analyses Kramnik-Junior 6 and Kramnik-Huebner.

In his weekly New York Times column, Byrne recaps the Frankfurt Giants tournament, won by Anand. He analyses Anand-Shirov, a French Steinitz.

Shelby Lyman
In his weekly column, Shelby says the specter of cheating by computers haunts the future of the game. He quotes Kramnik: "Computer prompting can change the situation drastically at crucial moments in chess. I believe that man's play is twice as strong if he makes use of a computer. When a large sum of money is at stake, one can have suspicions concerning any big tournament, including the world championship."
