Philippine Stars Boycott Olympic Trials
GM Eugene Torre, GM Joey Antonio, and Bong Villamayor are boycotting a qualifying tournament for the Philippine team to be sent to the Olympiad in Turkey later this year. The boycott is the latest turn in an ever-deepening rift between the Philippine Chess Federation and the country's top players.

The 2000 US Junior Invitational Chess Championship will be held July 6-16. The US Junior Open will be held July 14-16.
