In his weekly column, Shelby asserts that Khalifman's fine performance at Linares proves his winning of the FIDE championship in Las Vegas was no fluke. "Khalifman's dark horse performance gives support to the claim that the current relatively closed system of super-star tournaments perpetuates a tiny elite of privileged players."
