A big week for this website. Kasparov played chess with Boris Becker live on CNN. He also played a "United Nations of Chess" simul against 29 kids from around the world. Xiangzhi Bu defeated Teimour Radjabov in the Future World Champions match. Reports from the Amber tournament.

500 Kids Play Chess in Buenos Aires
Over 500 primary school children played chess in the Plaza de Mayo square in Buenos Aires. One of the objectives was to show that "school teaches beyond its walls." Several dozens chess masters gave simuls. [In Spanish.]

Krauthammer is Hooked on ICC
Time columnist Charles Krauthammer is hooked on the Internet Chess Club. "Internet chess is less like a San Francisco bathhouse than the terminal stages of alcoholism. Playing chess first thing Sunday morning, which I confess I did last week, is about as close as you can get to drinking aftershave."

In his publisher's message, Yasser Seirawan writes that while chess is suffering in the real world, it is booming in cyberspace. "Divergence dictates that what doesn’t work in the real world is the most
important in cyberspace and vice versa. Millions of dollars are being
spent on chess in cyberspace and from what I can tell, tens of millions
of more dollars are going to be spent on cyber-chess in the very near
future."
