Here are some of the most interesting decisive moments in the first games of round 1.

Joel Lautier vs. Rafael Leitao

Black had given up a pawn in the opening and got pressure for it. Now white played 1.Ne6, to which black replied by giving back the exchange: 1..Rxg2! 2.Ng5+ Rxg5 3.Qxg5 Qxf3+. Black eventually won.
Jon Speelman vs. Bartlomiej Macieja

1.Bf5 1-0
Konstantin Sakaev vs. Sergei Volkov

Black interposed with the Queen: 1..Qc8 2.Qxc8+ Kxc8 3.Bc4 1-0
Smbat Lputian vs. Pawel Blehm

White gave his Bishop for two pawns: 1.Bxe5! de 2.Nxe5 and created a huge, winning attack.
