Germany and Russia hang on to lead
(Refresh this page for latest updates)

We are over the half-way mark, and Germany continue to impress! Rustem Dautov of the German team has an impressive 2866 for a performance rating in 7 games!

Today in the Netherlands-Germany match the German top player Artur Jusupov beat Loek van Wely, who gave away his queen for bishop and rook. Germany collected 3 points from that match, which is exactly what the Russian team had done earlier today against Slovakia. So these two teams continue their race for the Olympic title.

England were one of the big favourites going into the Olympiad, but today saw another limp draw for the islanders. Michael Adams is scoring well, but the other players are not performing in a way that would make the English team a contender in this event.

USA is making up for lost ground, beating Brazil 1-3. But the Americans will have tough task ahead of them if they want to fight for top spots: they have yet to meet all the strongest teams.

Peter Leko, Judit Polgar and Lajos Portisch have been very effective so far, and today Judit added another scalp to her collection, beating Ilia Smirin in the Israel-Hungary match.
