Russia strengthens lead on round 11 (Refresh this page for latest updates)
Russia took a firm grip on the winners' trophy by beating their main rivals the Ukraine on the 11th round. Sergei Rublevsky turned out to be the Russian hero of the day when he beat Oleg Romanishin on board 4. Other games were drawn but not without interest. Morozevich sacrificed his rooks for Ponomariov's queen, but the game was drawn by a perpetual.
In the Germany - Bulgaria match, Robert Hübner and Veselin Topalov probably had too much respect for one another to go for it in the endgame. Kiril Georgiev decided the match to the Bulgarians by beating Rustem Dautov on board 2 after the German got into dire straits with his back rank.
Hungary are moving up all the time. Today the team beat the strong Armenian team - Judit Polgar was their winner (again).
These six teams should be the ones that will decide the overall win, as the Americans and the English seem to be too far behind already (but never count either of those teams out!).
