Short stumbled
The Monarch Assurance Open, which ended on Sunday on the Isle of Man, ended in somewhat of a disaster for Nigel Short.

After a blistering start, England's former World Championship Challenger suffered two straight losses and had to settle for third place behind Sergey Shipov and Emil Sutovsky.

World Senior Championships

The 9th edition of the World Senior Chess Championships runs November 8-20 in Gladenbach, Germany. After 6 rounds GM Vladimir Bagirov and FM Heinrich Fronczek are tied for first with 5.5 points.

The Slovenian Team Championships ended in Bled this weekend. SK Piramidia (headed by Zdenko Kozul and former World Championship candidate Gyula Sax) took the title, after winning six matches and conceding only one draw.
