The 100 best players in the world
- 52 men, 28 women and 20 juniors - were invited to play in the
fifth Generali Masters Individual Championship in Athens at the
weekend.
A common bidding system was used. The men played 112 boards, the
women 84 and the juniors, included for the first time this year,
76.

Andrew Robson, who came 3rd
in the event in 1998, finished 23rd this year, the highest placed
English player. Justin Hackett was 26th, Jason Hackett
30th and Tony Forrester 41st.
Liz McGowan finished 6th for Scotland. England's Nicola
Smith finished 10th (Nicola won the event in 1994 and was 3rd
in 1992). Heather Dhondy came 22nd and Sandra Landy,
third in 1998, finished 27th this year.
Miltos Karamanlis (Greece) won the Juniors .
No British juniors took part in the event.
