The Portland Club
6 - 7 May 2000
Oxford has won the 2000 Portland
Bowl, the Universities Cup, beating Cambridge 114 - 76. In
the semi finals, Oxford beat Durham 110 - 98 and Cambridge beat
Warwick 166 - 52.
Oxford began the day with a six-point
penalty when the train carrying Alex Hydes to
London arrived late.
Despite the late start, Oxford went on to beat a very strong Cambridge
side.
Durham has reached the semi-finals for the last four years
and this is the first year they have not finished fourth.
Giles Hargreave, Vice
Chairman of the Portland Club, presented the trophy to the winning
team, and paperweight souvenirs to all the players.
The winning team will be invited
to play in the university section of the World Teams Olympiad
in Maastricht at the end of summer.
