The
Mammoth Book Of Bridge
by Mark Horton,
Robinson, £8.99
This weighty tome is not just a welcome addition
to any bridge library, it is almost a complete bridge library in
itself. It is an ideal book to lend to any beginner or complete
novice as the first half of the book covers all the basics with
a light touch, as well as containing a glossary of all the standard
bridge terms, a feature omitted from far too many beginner's books.
It then has a wealth of historical information
that is difficult to find elsewhere, details of special events
and pen portraits of the world's leading bridge players past
and present. It is also bang up to date with details of the strength
of bridge-playing software and an appraisal of all the best bridge-related
websites. The best bridge books are also recommended and classified.
As the title suggests, it is possibly the best-value
bridge book published this year, with over 500 pages. This
is a book that you will refer to time and again and is certainly
something to put on your Christmas list.
