Liggins wins Premier League

Glyn Liggins London-based team Glyn Liggins/Joe Fawcett - David Burn/Brian Callaghan have won the British Premier League with a stellar Sunday performance that left their opponents, a squad of TGR players led by Lionel Wright Colin Simpson/Gunnar Hallberg, David Price/Tom Townsend, Nik Sandqvist, Lionel Wright, forced to concede with 16 of scheduled 160 boards unplayed. The Liggins team outscored Wright 119-12 on Sunday over 32 boards to take the final score to 366-267 imps.

Following devolution of the BBL the winners will qualify to represent England in the World Teams Olympiad to be played at Maastricht in the Netherlands from 26th August to 9th September. As the winners are a team of four, a third pair will be selected by the EBU Selection Committee to complete the team.

The match was close for seven of the ten stanzas, with Price holding a narrow lead overnight on both Friday and Saturday. In stanzas 8 and 9, however Burn outscored Price by 119-12, and Price conceded.
