This book is subtitled "A Relay
System for the 21st Century" and the truth of that remains
to be seen. No doubt we can expect to see one or two top pairs,
such as Glenn Groetheim and Terje Aa, playing a system like Viking
in the new millenium, but whether will be the weapon of choice for
Mr & Mrs Jones at the local club in any century is doubtful.
If you are a compulsive systems nut
with a preference for Strong Club methods, and I can think of a
few of you out there, then you should rush out and buy two copies
of this weighty tome today. As we might expect from these writers,
the book is thorough and technically superb, and there are flashes
of the humor we would anticipate from one as gifted as Alan Sontag.
But even serious students will find it fairly heavy going, even
though a lot of thought has clearly gone in to laying out the material
in a clear and logical manner.
