The winning team (of four) will be invited to represent England in the European Championships in Tenerife later this year. A third pair will be added to the team by the Selection Committee on Tuesday 3rd April (also a captain and coach).

At the halfway point of Stage II of the trials the Penfold team, comprising two of the three pairs who represented England at the World Teams Olympiad in Maastricht, has a big lead over the rest of the field.

The leading two teams after the second weekend of Stage II (10-11 February) will play off in a head-to-head match on 31 March-1 April to win the right to represent England in the European Championships in Tenerife next June.
