Raleigh International Expedition

6 December 2000

Dear Ms. Gudge,

During my final year at school I have been completing my Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award. For this I needed to learn a new skill over a period of one year. My mother is a fanatical bridge player and therefore bridge seemed a good choice.

My father is currently working in Botswana and a year ago I started bridge lessons with Mrs Janet Pinard in Gaborone, Botswana. By this Summer past I had become proficient enough to play in the weekly ladies game at the Gaborone Golf Club and took part in the Price Waterhouse annual bridge competition along with my mother and we had a good time although we were second last!

I have been accepted to participate in a Raleigh International Expedition to Costa Rica in February 2002. In order to participate I must raise my own funds. I have many ideas for fund raising and so far have completed a calendar draw, and been given a signed Scottish rugby top to raffle. My main fund raising event will be at Easter when I will be taking part in a sponsored work week in a home for the elderly in Peebles, Scotland.

On 19th December 2000, I am holding a bridge competition in the Gaborone Golf Club to raise money for the charity Raleigh International. Several local companies have given me prizes and I hope to be able to have a large group of both expat and Motswana students playing at the event. I would be grateful for any support you can offer me in my fund raising activities.

Yours sincerely,
Catriona Peatie
