Andrew Robson has been allowed to leave hospital in time to be home
for Easter. His injuries are healing well although the future of his right
foot is uncertain and the doctors are not particularly optimistic. However,
Andrew is in very good spirits.

By winning the challenge match,
Sally Brock, Margaret Courtney, Michelle Brunner and Rhona Goldenfield
are assured of a place in the English team for the European Women's team
championship in Tenerife. The selectors meet today to choose a third pair,
captain and coach. The odds are that Nicola Smith and Heather Dhondy will
collect the third spot, while Alan Mould will be coach.
Jason Hackett is favourite to be
Captain, but a potential trip to Korea might mean he would miss the final
day of the Championship and in that case Lionel Wright may get the job.
Since having a foreign manager is all the rage for English teams, Liz
McGowan of Scotland has been mentioned as it is possible she may
not be playing in Tenerife.

England International Mike Pomfrey collected a cool £500,000
on 'Who wants to be a Millionaire'. He has been contacted
by masses of media people - a full report has already appeared in several
national newspapers and he will feature in an upcoming issue of Bridge
magazine - but when I spoke to him yesterday he had not been contacted
by the EBU.
Do you recall a line from one of the songs in the musical Carousel - 'I
let my golden chances pass me by'.

Mike Pomfrey, well known in the North of England, is currently in
the hot seat in Who Want's to be a Millionaire? He has already won £32,000
and continues his quest tonight.

The signs are that Anglo German
relations will soon be further cemented by the marriage of two top players,
England's Justin Hackett and Germany's Barbara Stawowy.
It is rumoured that Bridge Magazine and Hello! are bidding
for the picture rights.

According to the latest edition of English Bridge the European Open
and Seniors Pairs will be in Tenerife between 20-25 March.
Close, but no cigar, as the rest of Europe
will doubtless travel to the real venue of Sorrento.

Following his historic sixth victory in the Cap Gemini Ernst
& Young World Top Invitational Pairs Tournament in The Hague, Zia
Mahmood offered the rest of the world's players a ray of hope by announcing
his retirement at the prizegiving - in around 20 years time!
There are also rumours that the world's
greatest bridge showman is to get married later this year.
