Amazing Decisions by English Selectors
The English selectors have made the remarkable decision to add Colin Simpson & Gunner Hallberg to the Open team for the Maastricht Olympiad, even though the Hackett twins, Jason & Justin had declared themselves available. They have been nominated as reserves! What is even more amazing is the news that when the team of David Burn, Brian Callaghan, Joe Fawcett and Glyn Liggins, had asked if the Hacketts could be added to their team prior to the playoff match, the selectors said no! It seems that David Price has been invited to Captain the team.

Bridge players and Decisions often come in Pairs
Strange decisions often come in pairs, therefore the news that the selectors want to hold a trial to determine who should represent England in the Womens event at Maastricht, should come as no surprise. They want Nicola Smith, Heather Dhondy, Sandra Landy & Abbey Walker to play a match against Sandra Penfold, Nevena Senior, Michelle Brunner & Rhona Goldenfield. This strikes one as a complete waste of everyone's time. A far better plan would be to arrange a match against some powerful opponents - the current World Champions are hardly a million miles away!

Speculation is already rife as to who will join David Burn, Brian Callaghan, Joe Fawcett & Glyn Liggins in the English Open team for Maastricht. The obvious choice would be the Hackett twins, who are in tremendous form at the moment, and undoubtedly the top currently active English pair. Whoever is chosen - and accepts the invitation - England will face a tough task. And what about a Captain ? We are told that Richard Fleet has declined the invitation to captain the team, and rumour has it that both David Price and Keith Stanley have indicated that they would be available.
The Tournament Director managed a photograph of the winning team in relaxed mode !

Cheers guys and congratulations! [Editor]

England have to come up with a team for both the Open & Women's series in the Maastricht Olympiad. Don't be surprised if the selectors go for this line up: Nicola Smith & Heather Dhondy, Sandra Landy & Abbey Walker, Nevena Senior & Sandra Penfold.
