Chess City

Link of the Week, 25th November to 1st December 1999
Free magazine by US chess and entertainment house Cardoza Publishing that excels due to the depth of its content: tournament reviews and reports, a gamut of gambits and a focus upon the "whiz kids" of chess - a group of promising juniors chosen for their winning attitudes as well as their spectacular games. The site also includes extracts of Cardoza's books (viewable in PDF format) and lively editorial on matters from the historical to the hysterical written in Editor-in-Chief Eric Schiller's personable style.

Particularly impressive are the downloadable video highlight packages, with commentary, for each of the four games in the final and the way in which those games were webcast live as the final took place.

British Go Association

Link of the Week, 4th to 10th November 1999
A fine model for what a national mind sport federation's web site ought to contain; an introduction to the ancient mind sport, details of where it is played both in clubs and in tournaments, the structure, function and contact information for the association, lists of books, problems and software and an enviable depth of resources regarding the game in this country both today and over the years.
