Loughborough, Mind Sports Olympiad 6 venue

The sixth Mind Sports Olympiad is taking place
at Loughborough University. Specifically, it is taking place
in Rutherford Hall and Cayley Hall within Village Park.
HOW DO YOU PRONOUNCE LOUGHBOROUGH?: According to
a physics
professor there, the syllable "Lough" is stressed, and rhymes with
"tough", "enough" or "cuff"; "borough" contains one or two unstressed
syllables (depending on how fast you say it) and rhymes with "labourer".
GETTING THERE BY CAR: Loughborough's motorway link is the M1; the
campus is just two miles from Junction 23. The university is clearly signed
on all the other main approach roads to Loughborough. The university also

GETTING THERE BY COACH AND BUS: National
Express operate coaches from many places in the UK to Loughborough. From
the centre of Loughborough, please catch a number 7 service operated by
KinchBus to Loughborough University. Buses run from Town Centre Ashby Square (stop E)
to the university every 20 minutes from 7:47 am to 5:47 pm on Monday to Saturday
and every 40 minutes from 12:07pm to 7:27pm on Sunday. A full

is available. Alternatively, you can catch a taxi, which should cost no more
than about £5.
GETTING THERE BY RAIL: Direct trains run to Loughborough from London
St. Pancras and take about 90 minutes. Loughborough station is well-connected
throughout the National Rail network; it lies on the route going between Leicester
and Derby, but there are also direct trains to Loughborough from Peterborough
and Nottingham. From the railway station, please catch a number 7 service operated by
KinchBus to Loughborough University. Buses run stop R at the station
to the university every 20 minutes from 7:40 am to 5:40 pm on Monday to Saturday
and every 40 minutes from 12:00pm to 7:20pm on Sunday. A full

is available. Alternatively, you can catch a taxi, which should cost no more
than about £5.
GETTING THERE BY AIR FROM EUROPE: The best solution is to get a flight to
East Midlands Airport,
which is only 7 miles away. Airlines serving the airport are:
- go: Alicante, Malaga, Faro, Prague, Glasgow and Edinburgh.
- bmibaby: Palma, Malaga, Nice, Barcelona, Faro, Prague, Ibiza and Murcia.
- British Midland: Amsterdam, Belfast City, Brussels, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Jersey and Paris (Charles de Gaulle).
- Aurigny: Guernsey.
- Eastern Airlines: Aberdeen.
From East
Midlands Airport, you can catch the Rainbow 5b bus or the Air-Line Shuttle to
the centre of Loughborough and then follow the bus instructions as above.
GETTING THERE BY INTERCONTINENTAL AIR: The best solution is to get a
flight to Birmingham International Airport and travel by train from Birmingham
International to Loughborough. It's cheaper if you get a train to Loughborough
which goes via Coventry than one which goes via Birmingham New Street.
Alternatively, if you fly to London Heathrow, you have two choices.
If you want to travel slowly but cheaply within the UK by coach, take the Flightlink 230 from
Heathrow to Leicester and National Express 330 or 440 from Leicester to Loughborough
or
any National Express service from Heathrow to London Victoria and National Express 440 from
London to Loughborough
or
Flightlink 240 from Heathrow to East Midlands Airport and
then follow the instructions above.
If you want to travel quickly but expensively by rail, take the Picadilly
line on the London Underground from Heathrow to King's Cross St. Pancras and train
from St. Pancras to Loughborough.
Another alternative is to fly to London Gatwick; the coach options within the UK
are the same as from Heathrow, or take a train from Gatwick Airport to London Victoria,
the Victoria line on the London Underground from Victoria to King's Cross St. Pancras
and train from St. Pancras to Loughborough.
MORE ABOUT THE TOWN: The market town of Loughborough, with a population of
approximately fifty thousand, is the second largest town in the county of
Leicestershire in the East Midlands. Attractions in the town itself include a
steam railway and a museum of bell making. It is in the heart of the English countryside
with Charnwood Forest on the doorstep and the Peak District, the country's first
