Important Reminder - Pentamind Contestants playing
afternoon events, must register events which could
improve their scores before 3.30 Monday for these results
to count!! Please see Jon in Room 205.
Yesterday's Decamentathlon raised the issue of
"Weighted results", as some disciplines seemed to be
easier than others... Should events be weighted? We say let
the playing public decide - give us your views!
After another absorbing match, which kept spectators glued
to the demo board, Matthew Macfadyen retained his
British Go Title with a 3-1 victory... Commiserations
to this year's tenacious challenger, Young Kim, but
despite an upset in game 3, Matthew seems to have made this
title part of his name!
Ron Banwell Masters - Lead Changes again!
Graeme Buckley's reign at the top proved short-lived as
Dimitri Agnos moved smoothly into 1st place today. 4
Challengers, Kunte, Harikrishna, Gormally and Buckley,
remain just ½ point behind on 6½/9.
"Ron Banwell - Unknown Postcard Artist"
John Rogers will be giving a ½ hour talk and
slide show, on the life & work of Ron Banwell, whom
some may only know as the "sponsor" of the Ron Banwell Masters
Chess event. Venue: Chiswick Town Hall, Heathfield Terrace W4 -
8pm Friday 21 September 2001. Entry fee 75p (includes refreshments).
On the reverse of the newletter were these two pictures:
...and an ink-on-paper cartoon by Fred Coombes which we
are trying to obtain to reproduce digitally.
