Dear British Stratego enthusiasts,
We hereby want to inform you on the 4th Open Stratego World
Championships and other Stratego tournaments which will be
organised at the 4th Mind Sports Olympiad in Alexandra Palace
(near the Wood Green underground station) in London.
For the first time there will be more Stratego tournaments at
the MSO. Next to the traditional Open Stratego World
Championship and the Stratego National Team World Championship
there will be workshops on Stratego, Beginner Tournaments and
also a Stratego-Barrage World Championship. Barrage is a sort
of tie-break version of Stratego with only 8 pieces and 10
minutes to play.
The Open Stratego World Championship and the Stratego Barrage
World Championship are open to everybody: qualification is not
required! For the Stratego National Team World Championship the
best 4 of each country in the individual Stratego World
Championship qualify. The Beginner Tournaments are open to
everybody except the top-100 adult players and the top-20
junior players of the ISF International Stratego Ranking.
Stratego Workshops are open to everybody. For all tournaments
there will be many money - and game prizes: the total prize
fund for Stratego is five thousand pounds.
And the good news is:
British people can participate in
ALL Stratego events FOR FREE!
Sponsored by Falcon Games / Jumbo UK (the distributor of
Stratego in Britain), Stratego entry fees will be
REFUNDED after each Stratego tournament. See below.

ENTRY FEES
Before being able to claim the entrance fee refund, the entrance
fee must first be paid at MSO the regular way. The entry fees
for the Open Stratego World Championship are £20 for adults and £8
for junior players. The entrance fee for Stratego-Barrage and the
Beginners Tournaments is £13 for adults and £5 for juniors.
For Stratego, junior players are those who were born after
January 1 1986. However, all people participating in the Open
Stratego World Championship can participate FOR FREE in all other
Stratego tournaments (as long as you are qualified to participate,
see above). This has nothing to do with the refund system!
REFUNDS
After each Stratego tournament, British players can reclaim
their Stratego entrance fee with the organisers' desk of the
Stratego tournament. (This has nothing to do with MSO!) The
only condition is that you must have completed that tournament
and that there is a maximum refund over all tournaments
of £20 for adults and £8 for junior players, because this is the
maximum you would have to pay when registering for ALL Stratego
events, as described above. Participants in the Pentamind only
get a maximum of £13 (adults) and £5 (juniors) refunded.
REGISTRATION
Advance registration is possible with the organisation of the
Mind Sports Olympiad (+44 1707 659080 between 9am and 9pm BST,
or www.msoworld.com)
or with the International Stratego Foundation (ISF)
(+31 24 3564247 or e-mail m.vanterbeek@psych.kun.nl).
It may also be possible to register at the MSO itself, but
a non-refundable late entry fee will apply. Payment of entry
fees also has to take place in cash at the registration desk
of the Mind Sports Olympiad. At the Stratego tournaments all
players again have to register at the tournament computer table.
