In order to help our participants find inexpensive accommodation in
London which is relatively close to Alexandra Palace, we are providing
the following information which will be updated from time to time.
Alexandra Palace is close to Wood Green station which is on the
Piccadilly Line of the London Underground. We are therefore
recommending places to stay which are also close to Piccadilly Line
stations. From Wood Green station you can walk to Alexandra Palace
in 10-15 minutes: walk along Station Road (opposite the station),
which continues into Buckingham Road, turn left over the bridge
just after you pass Alexandra Palace station (British Rail) on
your left, and left again on the other side of the bridge into
Bedford Road. You will see Alexandra Palace ahead of you - walk
to the far end of the building where you will find the entrance.
Please remember that in the summer London is a very popular tourist
destination, so the inexpensive accommodation is very much in demand.
We strongly recommend that you book as soon as possible. At the time
of writing all of the following have space:

OTHER ALTERNATIVES
London offers accommodation to suit
every taste and pocket. One of the easiest ways for you
to book your accommodation for the Mind Sports Olympiad
is to use the services of the LTB (London Tourist Board).
You may telephone the LTB on (020) 7932
2020 (or +44 20 7932 2020 if calling from outside the UK).
They are open Monday-Friday from 8:30am to 6:00pm. You
pay them a booking fee of 5 pounds using your Visa or
Mastercard, and you tell them what kind of accommodation
you want, the area of London in which you would like to
stay, and how much you are willing to spend. The LTB will
then find the most suitable accommodation according to
your specifications and availability. If you don't have a
credit card, you can book accommodation on the day of
your arrival in London at any of the tourist information
centres: they're located in Victoria and Liverpool Street
railway stations and in Heathrow Airport Terminal 1, 2 & 3 underground station.
Another way to book is directly with the
hotel or hostel. The site at
www.londontown.com
has a useful listing of places to stay. Please do not
contact us with accommodation enquiries. When deciding
where to stay, the closest neighbourhoods within Central
London, acccording to that site's categorisation system,
is North London. Ideally you should stay near an
Underground system on the Picadilly line; the nearest
Underground stop to Alexandra Palace is Wood Green, which
is 15 minutes' walk away or a short ride on one of the
frequent buses which follow route W3.
Alternatively, you might prefer to
travel by main line train to Alexandra Palace station.
On weekdays, trains run every 30 minutes from King's
Cross main line station, changing at Finsbury Park;
there are also direct trains every 15 minutes from
Moorgate main line station. On Saturdays, direct trains
run every 15 minutes from King's Cross; on Sundays,
direct trains run every 30 minutes from King's Cross.
These weekend trains have a journey time of 11 minutes.
For those with cars, there are two
thousand free car parking spaces at Alexandra Palace.
