Introducing Einar Gausel

4 May 2000

The MSO's Chess Correspondent

Einar Gausel
(Born 1963)

Lived in Boston 1966-69 and Montreal 1969-75. Moved back to Norway in 1975 and has been living in Oslo ever since.

Studied computing, marketing, and accounting (his only degree is in marketing), before he decided he didn't really want to work for a living. "I was a professional chess player for about five years. Then I discovered I could make more money writing about the game than actually playing it." Has a daily column in Norway's 2nd largest tabloid, Dagbladet, and a weekly column in Norway's largest men's magazine (No, not that kind of magazine), Vi Menn.

Was already semi-retired from chess when he made his 3rd and final grandmaster norm in 1995.

2 times Norwegian champion. 5 times Norwegian blitz champion.

Engaged - soon to be married. One daughter.

Enjoys following other Mindsports, but the only one he's actually able to play with some degree of skill (besides chess) is Poker.

Also likes playing "Pub Sports" - pool and darts.
