Domino masters from Norbiton scooped more than £1,000 in prize money when they beat off international competition at the annual Mind Sports Olympiad In August.
Members of the TLC Norbiton Domino Club celebrated with champagne after winning gold and bronze in the 5s and 3s section and silver in the straights on August 29.
The Norbiton club clashed with players from as far afield as China, America and Italy, who had come over for the 3rd Olympiad at the Olympia Conference Centre in London for the domino showdown.
And six club players came out on top, with brothers Gordon and Ray Lloyd winning a gold medal, Thomas Wood and Larry Hands winning silver and Mary Orchard and Doreen Wood collecting bronze after a long day among the dominoes.
The tension mounted during the build-up to the tense game played by Gordon and Ray Lloyd.
"It was a hard day and I couldn't stand the pressure so I had to leave the room. I was really emotional," said Mrs Wood.
"I was really shocked when we got bronze."
The prize money will be ploughed back into the club, to be spent on minibus upkeep and entrance fees to other competitions.
The club members joined more than 4,000 entrants competing in fields as diverse as chess, Scrabble, draughts and Countdown at the Olympiad, over a period of nine days.
And while they couldn't prepare strategies for their Olympiad efforts, they were safe in the knowledge that they could rely on their partners - with whom they practise at weekends at The Norbiton Club.
"We see who plays best together. It's a matter of trying to guess what your partner and your opponent are holding, that's where the mind games come Into it," said Mrs Wood.
"Domino games are highly skilful, you can't just throw anything down - it's like a form of maths. I'm 62, my husband's nearly 65 and it keeps the brain going," said Mrs Wood.
The 17 strong club was formed nine years ago, with members aged from 29 to 65, and meets Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays when members sharpen their skills for away games.
