The Memory World Championship

First held in 1991, then held every year since 1993, the 2004 World Memory Championship represents the thirteenth in the series. Past winners have been:
  • 1991: Dominic O'Brien
  • 1993: Dominic O'Brien
  • 1994: Jonathan Hancock
  • 1995: Dominic O'Brien
  • 1996: Dominic O'Brien
  • 1997: Dominic O'Brien
  • 1998: Andi Bell
  • 1999: Dominic O'Brien
  • 2000: Dominic O'Brien
  • 2001: Dominic O'Brien
  • 2002: Andi Bell
  • 2003: Andi Bell
  • 2004: ?
In many respects, this year's World Memory Championship will be the most open for years; eight-time champion O'Brien is expected to be present but not competing due to prior business commitments and the participation of Andi Bell has yet to be confirmed. The other best performers at last year's final were Astrid Plessl of Austria, Ben Pridmore from the United Kingdom and Dr. Gunther Karsten of Germany, who all have excellent chances of the title this year. Plessl's discipline victories at last year's World Championship make her the #1 confirmed seed, but Ben Pridmore is coming fresh off a victory in the first Memory World Cup.

The World Memory Championships are one of the best spectacles at the Mind Sports Olympiad, particularly the Speed Card event. Spectators are welcome and no charge is made!
